Our main purpose as a charity

We offer school based opportunities for pupils to learn science technology engineering and mathematics and related skills that assists the advancement of education of young people.

What have we done in 2022-23?

Trials to develop a working programme

In the summer academic term of 2022, having acquired 20 Edison robots, trial sessions were undertaken over 2 days with 60 Year 3 students at Newport Primary Barnstaple and 60 Year 3 students at Southmead Primary Braunton. Feedback from these experiences have helped us to develop our offer to schools.

Using a basic coding system, primary school children experimented with their robots.

Lesson Plans were developed from this trial, training in delivery undertaken, and in March 2023 64 Year 3 students at Braunton Caen Primary undertook hands on programming in EdBlocks, a simplified Scratch, over two days. 60 Year 3 students at Newport School also took part in like sessions.

Something for all ages

Also in March 23 an after school Robotics Challenge took place at Petroc. Three schools took part and competed to complete various root challenges involving robots completing tasks including having them burst balloons, follow paths, and avoid obstacles.

What next?

Building upon experience, lesson plans, workshops and competitions are planned, available to all primary, secondary and tertiary schools within the North Devon area.
